This is Mark Cullen, the victim of Ireland's first fatal shooting in two years after what's believed to have possibly been a punishment shooting gone wrong. Cullen, 39, was a troubled criminal who had been in and out of jail. He was shot and killed in leafy Dun Laoghaire in south county Dublin early yesterday morning, and it's believed he was summoned to the area for a so-called 'punishment' shooting - in which it was intended for him to be shot in the leg but not killed. However after being shot in the upper leg, Cullen bled out and died. Gardai have also not ruled out other motives - including an accidental shooting amid a struggle with his attacker. As gardai work to establish the motive, Cullen's chaotic past has come to light, with him racking up convictions for drug related offences, assault, knife possession and threatening and abusive behaviour. Cullen was most recently in prison in May of last year, and was awaiting court hearings to finalise charges of criminal damage - including smearing blood on the walls and door of a Garda cell.
